The Garden

I hate my garden. It's a depressing mess. I go outside, look at it, go back in and close the door. Its won't take much and won't cost much to sort it out. I just can't find the enthusiasm to do it.

I live in a mid terrace house built in 1901. Think Coronation Street. Nothing at the front but a small garden opening onto a service lane. There's a path from the house down to a small pointless lawn. There's also a flower bed. To give you some idea, this is what it used to look like.

Not bad. Loads of sunshine and somewhere to sit. I wish I'd taken a photo today. The lawn is full of not only weeds but cat shit. It's overgrown and looks awful. The past couple of years it's been water logged and this year I really didn't think it would recover, but it has to a point. The lovely flower bed is also full of weeds, cat shit and rubbish. It's vile. I have no idea how to stop the offending cats and never actually see them doing it.

Anyway my plan is to get the grass looking good. Dumping a load of weed and feed on it plus some seed on any patches. The flower bed is getting the weed killer treatment, I'm then putting down a membrane to stop anymore coming up. On top of that some stones and finally pots. You can't see in the above photo, but at the end of the garden is a bush/tree thing with yellow flowers. It needs sorting out as it's got quite leggy. The bumble bees absolutely love it so once autumn comes that'll get sorted.

To finish it all off, I'd like to get some solar lights and a bistro table and chairs. Like I said, we get the sun all day out there. And it really isn't a lot of work, I've just become very disheartened with it all. Last year it was so bad I didn't even bother sitting out there. Such a waste. Sadly as I rent I really am limited to what I can do.

I also have a desire to make my neighbours jealous...how childish am I?

If anyone has any good ideas where cats are concerned please let me know. I hate them with a passion.
