Bowen Technique and Michael Caine

I had an appointment with a chiropractor this week.  It has got to the stage of not knowing what to do when it comes to my back, hips, shoulder and neck.  The whole left side seems to affected, the doc has mentioned physio but the waiting list is months long.

So anyway, Heather, was recommended to me by one of my colleagues.  She works out of the MS Centre in Exeter, wasn't quite sure what to make of it all but thought it was worth a go. After a lengthy consultation she decided the best treatment would be something called the Bowen Technique.  I'll post a link which explains it all.  This involves rolling muscles.  Hmm.  She told me that I would feel spaced out, extremely tired, emotional, have a headache and feel like I've been in a fight.  Great.  Treatment started, was very gentle and to be honest I thought it would be a total waste of time.

She treats the whole body as it needs to heal and realign itself.  Some areas were fine, others not so good, my ham strings and hips weren't good and my neck and shoulders were so painful where they were knotted with stress and tension.  I'm carrying so much emotional stress around with me its having a huge physical effect.  Afterwards I felt like a zombie, was most weird.  I had to go to Sainsbury's on my way home so wandered around there totally dazed.  When I got home it was all I could do to go upstairs and to bed.  I felt like I'd run a marathon.  I've ached ever since and the headaches come and go.  This is all good apparently.  I did a 14hr day yesterday so was sore by the time I got home and today my legs feel like lead plus I have Illiosacral pain.  Back on Tuesday for more, I hope it works for me, and if it does I shall keep the treatment going on a maintenance basis.  Sometimes you just need to stop and look after yourself.

The Bowen Technique

Sir Michael Caine was on the radio today.  He has to be one of my all time favorite actors.  He is just brilliant.  One thing that really stopped and made me listen was his observation of people.  Being an actor, he studies the way people behave.  His observation was this - Powerful people speak quietly with very little if any gesticulation, it is though they see themselves as so powerful that they do not need to protect themselves.  Weak people, however, speak quickly and loud with lots of hand and arm movements as though they feel the need to be defensive.  This is so true.  Time to dig out some Michael Caine movies I think.
