I see lots of people have been coming up with their own Desert Island Discs. This got me thinking, you need 8, I could probably come up with a lot more but this is what I've ended up with, no doubt they will change, well one or two maybe.
1. Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen
The summer of 1982, my last year in mainstream school and we had a blast. A small group of us went to a residential centre called Huccombe for a week and what a fantastic time we had, I'll never forget it or those I went with. This track was being played non stop and i love it as much now as I did then.
2. Blondie - Sunday Girl
The first 45 I ever bought.
3. Elgar - Nimrod
I love this peace of music, I don't listen to it enough. In fact I love Elgar.
4. Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues.
I'm not a huge Elton fan but love this track.
5. The Jam - Going Underground
Have always been a huge Jam and Paul Weller fan and was lucky enough to see The Jam in concert many many years ago. After seeing the video for this track on some Saturday morning kids show I was well and truly hooked.
6. The Clash - London's Burning
I'll always have a soft spot for The Clash, I listen to them a lot and always seem to go back to them when nothing else will do.
7. The Beatles - Hey Jude
It's taken me a long time to appreciate all that is Lennon and McCartney. It has to be an age thing. I have no idea why I like this particular track so much I just do. I used to have it on a particular cycling playlist and it always came on at the right moment, usually when i was gasping for breath.
8. Stubby Kaye - Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat.
Guys and Dolls is the best. We did the production at school, I must have been 14 at the time. This is one of the best numbers from the show and is truly fantastic if performed brilliantly, just like Stubby Kaye.
There are so many tracks to choose from, where do you start. These are all tracks that I always go back to time and time again. Maybe they sum me up, maybe they don't.
